I have a really nice coffee table that we refinished. It's a great table, but it tends to scratch my laminate flooring if it gets scooted across the floor. We tend to move it around a lot, getting it out of the way when we play Wii games, etc.
Finally, I found a fun way to solve the problem. I just used a free pattern for bottle covers and placed them on the legs of my table, instead. Now, my table slides across the floor effortlessly. Here's a nice pattern from CrochetRoo .

Bottle Cap Bracelet & Barrette

Just wanted to share a couple more ideas for bottle caps.

I made the barrette using the same general principle as the Holiday Pin, filling the back with hot glue, and placing the barrette into the glue before it hardens.

The bracelet is assembled using elastic cord, threaded through the edges of the crochet, hidden along the back of the bracelet.

I bought this sheet of Christmas stickers, and realized they were the perfect size for embellishing bottle caps.

So, I spray painted the caps, and attached the stickers. I finished off the front with a healthy coating of polyurethane. Then, I turned them over, filled the inside with hot glue, and gently placed a pinback into the glue, making sure to position it for proper function.

Easy Holiday Pin

Last year I made a Holiday Pin from pipe cleaners.
This year's pin is made from a bottle cap.

I found a number of patterns for crocheting over bottle caps, got the general idea, and then made them my own way. You can find plenty of ideas from searching "bottle cap crochet". Once you have your bottle cap covered, just add a bow and a safety pin (or pin back), and you are ready to show off your holiday spirit.

If you don't already know, I am a hopeless Mt. Dew addict, preferring mine from a can. So, when I put up an earlier post about a coffee cup cozy, the wheels were turning. Now, I needed something to keep my precious soda nice and cold.

I measured the can, chose my fabric and got to sewing. The cutting measurements are: 4.5" x 12", with a point marked, starting 2" from one end. I used the same fleece for my inner layer, and elastic cord for the button loop.

I love how it turned out, and I really like the fabric. If you are a soda, or beer, drinker who prefers cans, whip one of these up to keep it cold. Could be nice stocking stuffer.

Warm Coffee...

Mmmm...delicious coffee. For me, it's only good while it's good and hot. Unfortunately, it doesn't stay that way long enough for me to finish it. So, I made this great coffee cozy.

You can find patterns for these all over the internet. I made this one simply by cutting apart a Styrofoam cup and tracing the outline onto my fabric.

I cut two pieces of fabric and one piece of fleece, and sewed, turned the whole thing, adding the elastic band into the opening I left for turning. Then, I top-stitched all around. I added the button and, 'Voila', an adorable coffee cup cozy to keep my coffee warm to the last drop. :)

I have a TON of golf theme fabric, and was given almost as much of a blue striped fabric. Both are upholstery weight.

I recently was doing some research on simple market bags, and found a pattern for a simple bag called a Morsebag.

This pic is of the first two I made. I already have fabric cut for six more and have the handles sewn, and will be shopping in style in just a few hours.

If you are ready to give up those plastic bags, and go green, give this pattern a try. They are super easy, boast a french seam for no raw edges, and make up in no time at all.

I have to share this truly wonderful idea that I happened upon over at Parties by Hardie. These "crayons" are made from pretzels with candy coating. They have to be the cutest thing I've ever seen!

I'd just like to make one suggestion for a little something different. Perhaps, instead of candy melts, why not make these with white chocolate, tinted with food coloring. I just LOVE chocolate covered pretzels, and I really love this craft. I think these would be a great stocking stuffer, instead of the usual holiday candies.

"Miss You" Card

I was looking through my closet full of craft projects and came across these cards.

I think they are adorable, and had forgotten all about them. In a time of E-mail, E-cards, and just about E-everything else, this is a great way to let someone know you miss them.

I used googly eyes to add some depth and found the mouth in some free graphics on the internet, and just used a fun font from my word processor program. With just a few minutes to make up, these cards will bring a smile to the receiver.

Well, the holidays are looming, and for crafters it is time to get started. I've got my first project done, and thought I would share it with you.

I was wanting to create something that would be fairly quick and not too difficult. I love tea light displays, and this combo of tea lights and holiday display played into my idea perfectly.

Made from a plank of pine, and a cute design on holiday gift paper, I have a fun tea light holder that will serve me for many holiday seasons to come.

Crayon Hauler

I found the plans in an old woodworking book, but you can search the internet for similar plans. The truck will become a favorite toy, and the crayons will be kept in order.

I had some fun with the paint job. This one is geared toward a little boy's color taste, but you can adjust for the little girls on your list.

Here's a fun, easy to make gift idea. I used the "Lucky Penny Holder" pattern with a larger hook, and made a Lucky Quarter Holder with a quarter minted in the birth year of the recipient. Once completed, it can be added to a chain, worn with a pin back, or add a magnet. It makes a nice keepsake, and a great stocking stuffer.

I was surfing the web for new ideas, when I came across several sites with posts about Kanzashi Flower hair accessories. Well, after several bad attempts, I finally managed to make this cute holiday barrette. Honestly, it was tedious, aggravating, and nowhere near as easy as those sites try to make you believe. In the end, I love it! If you want to try it for yourself, just search "Kanzashi tutorial", and you will have a plethora of sites to teach you how.

Gift Card Ornament

Everybody has somebody on their gift list to whom you plan to give a gift card. Why not make something to make the card a little more special? This pattern was in the Fall edition of Scrollworks magazine, and I just love it. A ribbon is threaded through a hole in the top that holds the card inside, plus you can add a hook and hang it on the tree until the big day.

I cheated, a little, because I am really bad at tying bows, and used a pre-made bow on wire. I just threaded the wire through the hole and twisted it on the other side to hold it. Then, if I want to hang it, I can attach the hook to the wire.

"Pin" Me

	I love taking a project and changing it into something else. This pin is one of my favorite examples of that. Originally, I showed you how to make the "JOY" ornament. Then, I miniaturized it and made it into a pin. I think this is a great gift for teachers, co-workers, friends...and don't forget to make one for yourself. PLUS, this project is so easy, the kids can make them, too.
What you need: 1 red pipe cleaner 1 green pipe cleaner 1 1" plastic ring 1 pin back small red bow hot glue gun
	Start by wrapping the green pipe cleaner around the plastic ring. When completely wrapped, adjust to make sure there are no gaps.
Use the red pipe cleaner to form a "J" and a "Y", making sure to adjust the size to match the ring.
Now use hot glue to attach letters to each side of the ring, and add your bow. Hot glue your pin back, watch your placement so it doesn't show from the front. Voila!! A crafty holiday pin!

	For the past few days, I have been in mass production mode. Every year my oldest daughter likes to craft a little something for her co-workers. This year, however, her schedule is so full between college and work, I volunteered.
	I just love these candy cane ornaments. They are quick, easy, and always bring a smile to the recipient's face. HERE is just one of the many places where you can find instructions for how to make them. These adorable mice make great gifts for just about anyone, hang on the tree, attach to packages, and more!

A "JOY" To Make

	Here's a fun, fairly easy to make felt holiday ornament. You can adjust the size, vary the embellishments, add glitter...what ever you like.
WHAT YOU NEED: 1 sheet green felt 1 sheet red felt wooden curtain ring tacky glue sewing supplies embellishments
	Cut 3 pieces of green felt, 1-1/2" wide and the length of the sheet. Fold each strip in half and sew, or glue together, along unfolded edge. Then make 1/2" cuts every 1/8" along folded edge. (See pic.)
Glue one end of a strip to the ring and begin wrapping, hiding glued edge under cut edge as you go around. Continue with more strips until entire ring is fully covered.
	Now, cut two J's and Y's from red felt. Sew around outer edge, and lightly stuff both letters.
Finally, glue each letter to sides of ring and add your chosen embellishments.

I think this is a really adorable ornament. Very easy, and sure to be a big hit.

Send A Little Love

Thanks to One Pretty Thing, I learned about a site called, My Baby's Bling, which is owned by Chanda Brady and is dedicated to helping preemie babies and their families feel that someone cares, and give them a little bit extra love.

I would love for my reader's to take just a few minutes and whip up a few of these absolutely adorable baby eye masks to help babies who are in NICU. Click on over and read Chanda's story, get the pattern, and then send a little home-made love to help with her cause.

Then, enlarge the pattern and make a few for the day-sleepers on your holiday list. Maybe, even, one for yourself, for those occasional stolen afternoon naps.

Bag It Up!

Yesterday I told you about a great site with a wonderful tutorial for making reversible, re-usable grocery bags. Since that time, I have been cranking them out like crazy. I really love them, and find them fairly easy to accomplish.

I would like, however, to add one thing. When I thought about actually using them, I realized there was no way to hang them on the bag dispensing racks that most stores use when bagging.

No problem! I added grommets to my bags so they can be hung from the same rack and utilized in the same way as the offensive plastic bags. (Click the pic for a better view.)

I'm also going to make a few in Christmas fabric to use as a gift bag.

Saving Green While Being Green

I came across a great pattern for making re-usable, reversible grocery bags. Green and Unabashed has a fantastic step-by-step, picture laden, tutorial. The pics above are of the bag I made from the directions. I especially like it because there are no straps to sew on. It was pretty easy to make and fairly speedy.

I wanted to make these bags for myself, but I'm thinking these could be really great DIY gifts for the "green" conscious folks on your holiday list. I have two daughters in Jacksonville, who do a lot of shopping at Sav-a-Lot and I think they would love to get half a dozen of these to take along.

Scrolled to Perfection

It was a lot of work, but so-o-o-o worth it! This is the final, ready for delivery, product. My husband immortalized in wood. I made this portrait of my husband, with a little help from my friends, as a gift for my mother-in-law's 75th birthday. I had posted it earlier, but then made a couple of changes and wanted to share the end result with you. I am so happy with it, and I know she will love it, too.

Pineapple Patience

Sue over at Crafty Palooza had been keeping her readers up to date on the progress of a pineapple she has been growing. Until just recently she was able, finally, after waiting two years, to pick and enjoy the fruit of her labor.

I thought I would show you the pineapples I am growing, not that I deserve for them to be growing, I am a terrible plant caretaker. I planted these pineapples around 4-5 months ago, and despite my lack of effort in taking care of them, they continue to thrive. I've read quite a bit about them, since planting my own. Like, they can take up to 3 years to produce that one, lonely pineapple. Also, you know they are ready for harvest when you can easily pull out one of the center leaves.

So, I will continue to watch and wait, with what little patience I possess, until one day, like Sue, I will be able to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

Here's a little something I'm playing with. I've never tried making scrabble tile pendants before, so I was taking a shot at it. Not quite as simple as I had imagined it would be, but not too bad. I think I will make up a bunch of these for stocking stuffers.

Use your favorite craft adhesive to attach trimmed, decorative paper to tile, then coat the paper (making sure to catch the edge) with Diamond Glaze.

Fun With Dominoes

I saw this idea on Flickr, and just had to try it for myself. These coasters are made with dominoes and a layer of cork. I used E6000 to adhere them together. The coasters I saw on Flickr were made with dominoes and peel and stick tiles.

I think either method is just fine. These would be great in a game room, for a card party, etc. They are easy to make, and make a fine conversation piece.

My Kitties ARE my babies...

I recently had the good fortune of stumbling across Joy's Hope, a very crafty place. While there, I found this great tutorial for a "crinkly" baby toy.

Well, I don't have any babies, but I whipped one up, with one minor adjustment...I added a dash of catnip inside the cellophane! Yes, it is for my kitties...because, after all, my kitties ARE my babies. They love the noise! Been batting it around for hours.

What I've Learned.....

I've been experimenting with a new technique for embellishing glass ornaments. I fired up my wax pot and started dipping them in to see what I would get. At first, I got a gloppy mess. Then I filled the ornaments with cold water and tried again. The result was much prettier and smoother.


And, then...I used crayons, just like with my candle globes, and sure enough... that looks good, too.	I also tried to carve a design in the wax, after dipping. I like the result. I used the engraving bit on my Dremel rotary tool.	I even used some rubber bands and dipped the ornament a couple more times to cover them. I think I like this one best.

I am completely inspired, and am probably about to
go over the deep end with these ornaments.

Nursing Bracelet Update

In my last post, I told you about nursing bracelets, and where to learn how to make them. Then...over the weekend, I went out to try and pick up the supplies to make one, as I have a friend who is pregnant. Well, I gotta tell you, beads with numbers on them are not very easy to find. I did find them online, but they were $.55 a piece!!!

So, here's an idea. I bought inexpensive wood beads, and then broke out my woodburner and put numbers on them, myself. I think this bracelet looks great and, what's more, it's even more "handmade".

Great Little Invention

Well, I guess, since I haven't had a child young enough to be nursing in...a LONG time, I am apparently out of the loop. I was surfing the internet this morning and found myself following a google adsense ad about "nursing bracelets". I had never heard of such a thing and, clicked the ad to satisfy my curiosity. What a wonderful creation!

It's a bracelet that helps you keep track of when you last fed your baby and what side he/she last nursed on. I was excited by the idea, but seriously put off by the price tag. Well, I've got to tell you, it was very difficult to find anyone willing to share a "how-to" for this crafty bit of practicality.

I know what you're thinking...it doesn't look that hard, who needs instructions? And, you'd be right, I'm sure you could figure it out, but it never hurts to get a head start from seeing how someone else did it, first.

By-Gone Tutorial Brought Back For Correction

You might remember me pointing you to my tutorial for these beautiful candle globes over at Craft Tutorials. I also have an instructional video for them HERE. (If you watch this video, click away the ads, they are blocking the wording.) However, when I made those tutorials, it turns out, I was doing the "drip lines" the hard way. So, I thought I would tell you how I did it on a new one I made today. This globe got its layers of pink via my heat gun and 3 crayons. Just unwrap the crayons about 2/3 down and hold above the candle globe. Making sure you are pointing the heat gun at the crayon and not the candle globe, melt crayon so that drips fall onto the outside of the globe. When you have dripped the amount of color you want, let the globe cool. Once everything is cool, turn your heat gun on and remelt the drips so that they run, being careful not to hold the heat on any one spot too long. The colors mix together and, unlike before, they fuse into the globe instead of just laying on top. It's much faster than a drip candle, and I think it looks fabulous!

Recycled Partyware

Recently, I received several boxes of unwanted LP vinyl records from FreeCycle.org. I am gearing up to make a ton of recycled crafts with them. Below are a few examples of today's session. I apologize for the incredibly poor photo quality, my digital camera was stolen, and all I have is my webcam.

	This one was made with a glass pie plate, using the plate upside down and letting the album melt on the outside. It turned out SO well, I'm sorry the pic isn't better.
	I made this one using a glass 9" X 11" dish, placing the album on top and letting it conform to the inside of the dish. I LOVE this one! It shaped so nicely, I am going to use it for a jewelry tray!
	This one is made with an 8" X 4" loaf pan. Interesting...candy dish?
	And, this one was made with a large glass bowl, once again turning it upside down and allowing it to melt onto the outside ot the bowl. Then, I place the lid of the bowl on top to encourage symmetry.

Totally Square

Folks who regularly follow my blog know how hard I have been trying to learn to knit. I have generally mastered the stitches, but have trouble keeping track of where I am in the project.

Over the weekend, I found a new knitting book called, "Dishcloths From The Heart" from Leisure Arts. There are 14 dishcloth patterns, 10 of which are designed to be the same finished dimensions, a 9" square.

Well, miracle of miracles, I seem to be able to manage creating these squares!! So, I'm going to make a total of 30 squares and assemble them into an afghan. The pic is of my first finished square, and I will add pics of each of the square designs as I finish them.

Not sure what the deal is with my webcam, you'll have to take my word for it, when I tell you, these squares are bright yellow!!

Dominos Really Do Deliver!

This is my first attempt at making an altered domino. I think for my first try, it's not too bad. Thanks to my recent introduction to Diamond Glaze, projects like this are a snap. I used scrapbook paper, and Diamond Glaze...and that's it! The picture doesn't do it justice. It's smooth and glossy, and as soon as I find a decent chain, I'll be sporting this pendant all over town.

A few knots, a bit of cord and a barrette was all I needed to make this beautiful hair accessory.

WhatKnot has a great tutorial for the "Dragonfly Knot" to get you making one of your own in just minutes. Then just use craft adhesive to add it to a barrette and away you go!

Doily-cious!

I have a book called, "99 Little Doilies", and have been making a few recently. I started working on an oval doily, when I got to thinking it would make a nice hair accessory. So, I worked it until I got to a good stopping point, before it was too big, and then soaked it in liquid starch. While it was drying, I cut a thin dowel rod and stained and polyurethaned it. When everything was dry, I put it in my hair. I just LOVE the way it turned out.

Going "green" was never so much fun as these easy, fire starters. All you need is an empty paper tube, a handful of dryer lint and an old candle.

Here's the link to a very nice tutorial that gives you step-by-step instructions to make your own. The pic with fire, is a test, nothing but the fire starter. It burned for well over 20 minutes. I made a ton of these, and now have friends asking me to make them some. Try it for yourself!

Remember back when these yarn dogs were popular? I found this tutorial while searching for craft projects, and just had to give it a try.

	Here's a totally super simple way of enjoying your stick incense, plus doing some creative recycling while you're at it. I used a soldering iron to make holes around the top and bottom of a 2-liter soda bottle. Then, I made a very small hole in the lid of the bottle.
	Now, just take your incense stick and push it through the hole in the lid, light it up, then replace lid with incense stick hanging down inside the bottle. Your room will fill with the sweet aroma of your favorite scent, and the mess with stay inside the bottle.

	I had to share these pics of the pride of my garden. These flowers were no easy chore for me. I originally planted 12 bulbs and, when all was said and done, only one of them came up. I don't know why, but I am grateful to have one of them to enjoy, anyway.
	They are called Cannas, and I think they are gorgeous. This one successful bulb has spread into five plants, currently filling a large corner of my raised-bed garden. One of the joys of living in Florida, is the ability to have blooming plants all year round.

NotMartha has a great picture laden tutorial to make this draft stopper, just like on TV, for just a few dollars. The advertised product sells for $9.95 plus $6.95 shipping. This version can be made for as little as $5.00.

I looked up the cost of the supplies, and you can get copper pipe insulation for about $1 per foot. The instructions call for approximately 4.5 feet. Then if you find fabric for $1 yard, the total cost is $5.00. That's a 70% savings for about an hour of work.

You know how I like to find more affordable ways to have those gadgets that are always popping up on infomercials. So, today's redo is for the "Snuggie" that is currently being advertised for $20 plus $8 shipping. The deal they offer is buy one, get the second one for just the cost of shipping. So, to summarize, you get two "Snuggies" for $36.00.

So, I set out on a quest to make these for my daughters for Christmas, and to do it for less than the cost of the advertised one. I spent quite a bit of time, scouring the internet for a pattern, and finally came across a blog with a fabulous tutorial. Miss Fruitfly has everything you need to know to make your own blanket with sleeves.

I made some adjustments to mine. Folks in my house are fairly short, and I found that I did not need as much fabric as is recommended in the pattern. This would definitely be true if you are making it for a child.

So, here's what I did: I went to JoAnn Fabrics during a pre-holiday sale and found fleece fabric for $2.99/yard. I bought four yards of four different colors at a total of $48.00. I decided to buy four yards so that there could be no possibility of not having enough.

Then, I followed the instructions over at Miss Fruitfly and successfully made the first one. It turned out great. The only thing I thought about it was that it was quite a bit longer than was really necessary. So, when I made the second one, I changed my approach. I cut my four yard piece of fabric into two equal pieces and followed the directions again, with just that length. This one was great, also, but I would have like it to be a bit wider. So, the last two I made by cutting a two yard piece for the body, and then cutting the sleeve pieces from the second piece of fabric. These two are plenty wide and plenty long for members of my family, and I have fabric left to make matching drawstring bags to keep them in.

In the end, I made a total of 5 blankets with sleeves, plus matching pillows, all for $48.00. PLUS, I made each of them in the colors I wanted, in less than an hour, instead of waiting 3-4 weeks for it to come in the mail.

Finally, if you find fleece on sale, like I did, at $2.99/yard, and buy the suggested 3 yards, you can make two blankets (just like the commercial) for $18.00, which is a 50% savings.

Oh, and one more thing, the tutorial was posted more than a year ago!! Thanks, Miss Fruitfly, for being ahead of your time!!

A Family Obsession

	Our family is somewhat obsessed with unity. For example, all 3 daughters and myself have a tattoo which my daughters designed, that is a conglomeration of all 5 of our zodiac signs. (No, we couldn't convince my husband to get one.)
So, my oldest daughter took this obsession and incorporated it into several gifts which she brought us at Thanksgiving. Here is a really cool picture she drew for my husband, who loves to do woodworking, using our symbol and tools. Along side the drawing is a jewelry box she made for me which has our symbol painted on the top.
Here's one last bit of fun, she made with our family symbol. She created this with 600 paper clips and a receipt spike (don't really know what that thing is called). If you look close, you can see the symbol, done in wire, hanging from the bottom.

You don't have to get a tattoo to show your family unity, but perhaps one of these crafts will inspire you to create something truly unique for your family.

Looking for an easy, really pretty ornament idea? Well, here you go. My family is doing a "handmade" Christmas this year, and I am making ornaments for each of my daughters. They are easy to make and look just lovely.

I decided that, since I am temporarily addicted to loom knitting, I would use it to make the ornaments. I used the pink Knifty Knitter flower loom. 10 rounds of tube knitting, gathered at both ends, place ornament inside before closing second end. Just look! Don't you love them?

A Quiet Man

Here's a Thanksgiving story sure to make you cry. My husband is a very quiet man. He says very little, and most people are intimidated by him, because of it. He's not the type to have a heart to heart with family members, he's not outwardly affectionate, and I love yous for his children are few and far between. However, there are those 'once in a blue moon' times, when we all get to see how much he really cares. This holiday was one of those times.

My oldest daughter, Brigit, wrote a lovely poem for her father, and gave it to him while she was here. We all read it, and it made each of us get all teary eyed. Except for Dad. Not surprising, it takes a lot to make him cry. but, don't get to thinking that he's a hard-heart who isn't touched by the love of his children.

Later, that same day, he was out in the garage working away, making all kinds of noise. No one knew what he was up to. When I went out to see, he told me he was making a frame for her poem. Well, if you knew him, you would know that this was his way of showing her what that poem meant to him.

He spent two days cutting, routing, sanding and staining that frame. Then, I took it and added the mat and burned the edges. This is the final result.

The Poem reads:

My Dad is...

I know you think you're not enough for me, but your love is.
I know you think you're not big enough for me, but your heart is.
I know you think you're not strong enough for me, but your embrace is.
I know you think you're not man enough for me, but my dad is.

I have told you about FreeCycle.org before, and here I am telling you again. I just love the latest addition to my backyard, and it all started at FreeCycle.

I had some white wicker furniture that I no longer had use for, so I put it up on FreeCycle. At the same time, I put up a request for a picnic table. I got a response that just happened to take care of both at the same time. I gave the wicker to a lady who, as a matter of fact, had a picnic table she no longer needed. The table was in pretty bad shape, but the frame was strong and my husband was willing to tackle it. We bought new wood, paint, all new bolts, and polystain. Everything totaled out at just about $200. My hubby spent two days sanding, shaping and staining the wood, and painting the frame. And, just LOOK at the beautiful results.

I know what you are thinking...$200? A far cry from free! Well, I'll tell you, I looked up the cost of this picnic table in the retail market, and the results were overwhelming. Just the frame would have cost $197. When I looked up the cost of the complete table, it was between $449 and $697.

So, no matter how you look at it, we saved at least 50%.

Winter Warmers

Remember the scarf I knitted on my blue Knifty Knitter loom? Well, I finally managed to make wrist warmers to match.

I spent a lot of time trying to use a loom, and then even trying to actually knit them. They turned out too big on the loom, and my ineptitude with the needles made my knitting attempt quite laughable. So, I broke out my crochet hook and whipped these up.

Simple as can be, and quick, too.

Just make a chain that wraps around your wrist comfortably (mine was 25 chains). Then, single crochet in rounds until you like the length from wrist to bottom edge of thumb.

Then, chain 4 and skip four stitches. Continue single crocheting around, and single crochet in each of the chains. Finish off when you are happy with the length above your thumb. It's that easy!

I managed to take a couple of pictures, although, I didn't get one with my youngest daughter. I'm not sure how that happened.

The daughter on the left is Brandi, she's the one still at home. The daughter on the right is Brigit, she's earning her degree in Mathematics Education at the University of North Florida.

Since, I somehow neglected to take my youngest daughter's pic while I was there, I swiped this one from her MySpace. I like it. Brooke is currently earning her degree in sign language interpretation, at the Florida Community College at Jacksonville.

Anyway, I'll get right back to crafty posting.

I've always been a bit leery of making sock monkeys. I don't have particularly developed hand-sewing skills. I must say, though, this monkey was my first try, and I think he turned out pretty well. His ears are just a bit too low, I think, but he is very cute. I made him from a great tutorial on Urban Threads, and I just LOVE him. He has taken possession of the rocking chair in my bedroom and seems to be planning to stay a while.

Make Your Own "IPlanter"

Had to share this craft with you. I think it is a really clever green project. If you check around the internet, you will find quite a few unique ideas for making your own upside-down plant hangars. So, technically, this is just another one. It is, however, my favorite. I ruined the first two bottles I tried this with, and then I finally figured it out. So, just one suggested change when you follow Matt's Original Instructable, I placed a glass glass (actually a stack of three) under the bottle and then used the heat gun to push down the top. It helped to get a smoother circular bend area.

I had difficulty getting a good pic with it hanging outside where I intend to have it, so I took a picture of it hanging off the gate so you could see it better. I used cotton cording for the hangar and wallpaper covered with clear contact paper to make it pretty. The plant is a yellow tomato.

I previously posted this tutorial, and then removed it because I found a better, easier way to make them. So, here is the revised project.

You will need: foil wrapped cardboard aluminum soda cans long shank thumbtacks pony beads oven set at 400*F

Cut the aluminum can so that you have the bottom third, then cut sides and roll to form flower like base.
Place first bead onto shank of thumbtack.
Then push tack through the center of your base.
Now arrange six more beads around the center.
Put the whole thing in the oven for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and push thumbtack down until even with base. Then, back in the oven for another 10 minutes, or until holes in beads have disappeared.
Allow your creation to cool and then pop off the base.

OK, now go "get tacky"!

I followed a tutorial on Cut Out & Keep for Fabric and Button Barrettes, except I used holiday fabric and, in this case, left off the button. I think they turned out pretty good, and they were very easy. These would be great for a gift or stocking stuffer for the little girl in your life.

Broken Record

Yes, I know you are thinking I am starting to sound like a broken record. I apologize for that. The truth is, I can't think of anything else, don't want to do anything else, right now. I am without a doubt, completely obsessed with loom knitting, with little hope of coming out of it anytime soon.

You have to admit, though, this scarf is absolutely gorgeous!! Better than that - I made it myself!! I actually created something fantastically beautiful with knitting.

This one is called a tube scarf and was knitted simply by going in circles. One thing I have learned is that knitting yarns are so unbelievably soft, and you use a significantly smaller amount of it to knit things. This scarf was made with only one skein, worked here and there when I had the time, and was completed in less than a day. How could you not become enamored with such a craft? My need for instant gratification has never been so satisfied.

Buttery Thinking...

Well, I asked for ideas for repurposing Parkay Squeeze Margarine containers. I received encouragement, but no ideas. So, I put on my thinking cap, and here are a few ideas I came up with.

	Here's the first one: a magnetic holder for pens, or paper, for the fridge. I cut off the top, and half of the front panel. Then, attached a small piece of decorative paper (couldn't get that label off, no matter how hard I tried), and attached magnet tape to the back.
	How about as a ribbon organizer? I cut off the top, then cut from the top to each corner. I put a 3-1/2" dia. ribbon spool inside (it fit great) and folded the top over the end of the ribbon.
	This is the same folded top, but this one is a gift box. With a small gift wrapped inside, your recipient will think you are a genius! Right?
	This one is my favorite! Have you seen crafts for hiding money in places where thieves would never think to look? I just cut a slit in the top of the bottle. Push in the portion of the bottle which is above the slit and slip in your "mad" money, then adjust the bottle so the slit isn't noticeable. No one will ever imagine you have money in there.

	Just print this holiday frame, and attach to the front of your card. Leave an open space for slipping in your photo.
	The frame fits perfectly inside an acrylic 5 X 7 box frame, also. Just remove the filler box, place the frame inside, adjust your photo to fit and replace the box. A quick, easy, really cute project.

I was trying to come up with super simple holiday ornaments, that you could make with your kids. Well, how about this one? A 2-1/4" circle of cardboard, and some 4-ply cotton yarn. Mark the cardboard edge every 1/4" and then cut a 1/4" slit at each mark. Then just follow your basic string art method and you will have an adorable double-sided holiday ornament in a matter of seconds. I hung mine up with a paper clip. Why not try this with vellum, or even with plastic from a 2-liter soda bottle? Hang jingle bells or mistletoe from the bottom, maybe ribbon or a bow...use metallic yarn, or even put a photo in the middle of your string design. The possibilities, as always, are endless.

A couple of days ago, I started making a barrette holder, and got sidetracked. Nothing unusual for me, I am very easily sidetracked. So, today, I decided to get back to it. I used my spool loom and some 4-ply cotton yarn, and knitted a cord about 1-1/2 ft long. Then I attached some of my beautiful "Beadie Barrettes" and hung it with a thumbtack to my memo board. They look great and are readily available.

What you get for 48 feet.

	This morning I was playing with my spool loom, thinking I would make a barrette holder. It was coming along fine, when I started to think. (That's right, look out.) I was thinking about how people use this loom to make cords and handles for purses, totes, etc. What if you made the cord - out of cord? I imagined it might make a spectacular jump rope.
	So, I hunted around my stash and came up with a 48 ft package of 1/8" nylon cord, and started workin' my magic. As a result, I can tell you that 23-1/2" is what you get for 48 feet. Well, that's all the cord I had on hand, so my jump rope dreams are temporarily on hold.
	Now, I know that this amazingly perfect (yes, I said, mistake free!! You'll know why in a future post.) creation would make a grand purse handle, but my need to be different urges me to find some other unique use. Any suggestions?

Latest Obsession

I haven't posted for a few days, because I have been quietly working on my latest obsession. I have a deep desire to learn to knit. Unfortunately, I do not possess the talent. Time after time, I have tried to learn, only to wind up giving up and returning to crochet.

Well, I recently bought a Knifty Knitter knitting loom. It is the yellow loom, and it was on clearance for just 97 cents. I couldn't resist it.

And, now I am knitting and loving it! I know it's not a knew craft, but it is new to ME! I found patterns and instructions by searching you tube. There are several ways to knit with this tool, and plenty of instructional videos to teach you how to do them all.

Just about everyone who begins knitting starts with a scarf pattern. So, I'm making a scarf. My youngest daughter, currently attending college in Jacksonville, told me she would like a scarf, as it gets much colder there than it does here.


	The first pic is the tool itself, followed by my first try using it. And the third pic is the project I am currently working. I found an instructional video that teaches how to make a flat panel on a round loom. so, I'm going to town with it.

As you can see, I neglected to notice I had skipped a stitch in my first project, until it was too late to do anything about it. Wish me luck on my scarf project. I'll post pics of the finished scarf (hopefully), soon.

Creative Recycling

Look what you can do with a little recycling ingenuity! This is my beautiful new office!!! The pictures don't even come close to doing it justice. The desk and desk light were acquired from FreeCycle. The table used to be my dining table, until I got my new one from FreeCycle. I turned an old shelf unit on its side and screwed some hooks into the tall section for daily use accessories. And the window shade, mirror and white board came from the garbage. (No, I'm not too proud to root through the garbage.) I'm so happy with it. This is the smallest room in my house and was difficult to keep from looking cluttered. I think it looks just fabulous, now!

Crafting "lesson"

Look at this fantastic window box! I have had these sitting on a shelf for a while. I bought them at a local thrift shop, where someone had marked the price, in permanent marker, right on the window. I really didn't know if I could remove the marker, but I just loved the boxes, and bought all four. Well, today, I discovered my old pal, "Oops", can take marker off of plastic. My beautiful boxes are truly beautiful, now.

Thumbtack Update

	Yesterday I showed you my "lazy" way of covering thumbtacks with fabric. Well, here's another fun way to decorate them. Use yarn and E6000 adhesive and swirl your way to a more decorative tack board.
	Or, use the same method as with fabric, except use scrapbook paper. Instead of wrapping it to the back of the tack, just use an exacto knife and trim the edge. Use a sealer to finish it off.
	And one final entry. This tack is inspired by a crochet covered button I found recently. Chain 2, 6 single crochet in 2nd ch from hook. (1st rnd) 2 sc in each ch. (2nd rnd) 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc.repeat around. (3rd rnd) 1 sc in each sc. Weave thread end through each sc, place over tack and pull tight, finish off.

As you know, I spend countless hours searching and researching the internet for great craft projects to share and create with you. This morning's search has yielded the most impressive project I have seen in quite a while. I spent two hours viewing 231 pages on HGTV.com, in their "Rate My Space" section. Through it all, I was most impressed with this fabulous "No-Sew Faux Roman Shade" project made with wallpaper. Included in the post are 29 pages of step-by-step instructions, plus plenty of pictures! Instructions for directional patterned and non-directional wallpaper, plus added instructions for larger windows.

I Told You I'm Lazy...

I've been seeing a lot of tutorials for covering thumbtacks with fabric.

They look great, and I just love them. However, you know me, I just don't want to do all the steps involved in these tutorials.

The instructions on these sights require you to use a button making kit, which I do not have just lying around, and just don't want to spend $2 worth of gas going to get one (plus a couple more for the kit), to make $.10 worth of thumbtacks.

So, here's the lazy (and less expensive) way of making them.

	Here's what you need: thumbtack, white glue, toothpick, small scrap of fabric, scissors, quick-grab adhesive. More than likely, you have all of this already available.
	Cut a circle of fabric, slightly larger than your tack. Squeeze a small amount of white glue into the center of the fabric.
	Press the tack into the glue, and allow to dry.
	When completely dry, clip the edge of the fabric, about every 1/8 inch, all the way around.
	Use the toothpick to spread a thin layer of adhesive on the back of the tack, and wrap the fabric onto back and press firmly.
	And, voila!, fabric covered thumbtacks! I sprayed mine with Scotch Guard for a little extra protection.

If you are not already aware of this group, please, let me be the one to broadcast the news. FreeCycle is the place to go if you have something you don't need, or need something you don't have.

Just this morning, I picked up a beautiful wrought iron, glass top dining room table and chairs. It looks fantastic in my house, and it didn't cost me a dime. It came from a house that had just been sold and neither the previous or new owners wanted it.

Often, people put up offers of boxes of craft supplies or collections. Plus, if you have something just taking up space, but you don't want to throw it away, you can give it to someone who really needs it.

My Monsterpiece

Here's a project I made for my daughter who is in college studying to become a mathematics educator. He's, basically, a rectangle with arms and legs. Very easy to sew, I'm sure you don't need instructions. I used fusible adhesive to attach the facial features, and made the bottom panel have two pocket sections. Don't you love it? He has apples for eyes, square root symbols for eyebrows, a pi sign for a nose, crayons for teeth. And his pocket says, "Teachers Rule".

I have another daughter in college studying to be a deaf interpreter and educator. Still working on ideas for that one...perhaps someone with more imagination than I have might send me some inspiration.

Scrunchie Upgrade

Many years ago I bought this really great hair accessory, the name of which I have no clue. I have looked for another one over the years, but no success. So, you know what I had to do. :) Here's what you need:

2 pieces of fabric (cut to 5" X 30")
2 pieces of 1/4" elastic (cut to 4")
2 - 4" plastic hair combs
E6000 adhesive

Here's what you do:

Turn each short end over 1/4", and then turn over again, forming nice hemmed edge. Stitch.

Sew long edge of each fabric piece, forming 2 tubes. Turn right side out.

Sew one short end of each tube closed, enclosing one end of elastic inside the seam.

Thread elastic through tube and sew into seam at other end.

You now have two tubes of fabric with elastic sewn inside, caught in each end seam.

Use adhesive to attach each tube to the top underside of each hair comb. Tubes will overlap in the center of comb. (Make sure your long seams are facing towards the hair comb, so that when you are wearing it you won't see the seam.

Allow to dry for several hours. To wear, slide one hair comb into hair, then, holding other comb in hand, stretch across to other side of head and slide other comb into hair. Fluff fabric. For ponytail, pull hair through, between the two tubes, encircling ponytail before inserting second comb into hair.

When I took these pictures, my daughter had just gotten done straightening her hair. A ponytail was as far as she would go, but if you put your hair in a loose bun, this looks even more beautiful.

	The site is dedicated to the art of knitting, but this rag "yarn" works just as well when using crochet techniques. If your "stash" is out of control, use your fabric balls to work up a braided rug, too.
